CLSE: Corpus of Linguistically Significant Entities

One of the biggest challenges of natural language generation (NLG) is the proper handling of named entities. Named entities are a common source of grammar mistakes such as wrong prepositions, wrong article handling, or incorrect entity inflection. Without factoring linguistic representation, such errors are often underrepresented when evaluating on a small set of arbitrarily picked argument values, or when translating a dataset from a linguistically simpler language, like English, to a linguistically complex language, like Russian. However, for some applications, broadly precise grammatical correctness is critical -- native speakers may find entity-related grammar errors silly, jarring, or even offensive. To enable the creation of more linguistically diverse NLG datasets, we release a Corpus of Linguistically Significant Entities (CLSE) annotated by linguist experts. The corpus includes 34 languages and covers 74 different semantic types to support various applications from airline ticketing to video games. To demonstrate one possible use of CLSE, we produce an augmented version of the Schema-Guided Dialog Dataset, SGD-CLSE. Using the CLSE's entities and a small number of human translations, we create a linguistically representative NLG evaluation benchmark in three languages: French (high-resource), Marathi (low-resource), and Russian (highly inflected language). We establish quality baselines for neural, template-based, and hybrid NLG systems and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each approach.

A Parallel Cross-Lingual Benchmark for Multimodal Idiomaticity Understanding

Potentially idiomatic expressions (PIEs) construe meanings inherently tied to the everyday experience of a given language community. As such, they constitute an interesting challenge for assessing the linguistic (and to some extent cultural) capabilities of NLP systems. In this paper, we present XMPIE, a parallel multilingual and multimodal dataset of potentially idiomatic expressions. The dataset, containing 34 languages and over ten thousand items, allows comparative analyses of idiomatic patterns among language-specific realisations and preferences in order to gather insights about shared cultural aspects. This parallel dataset allows to evaluate model performance for a given PIE in different languages and whether idiomatic understanding in one language can be transferred to another. Moreover, the dataset supports the study of PIEs across textual and visual modalities, to measure to what extent PIE understanding in one modality transfers or implies in understanding in another modality (text vs. image). The data was created by language experts, with both textual and visual components crafted under multilingual guidelines, and each PIE is accompanied by five images representing a spectrum from idiomatic to literal meanings, including semantically related and random distractors. The result is a high-quality benchmark for evaluating multilingual and multimodal idiomatic language understanding.

Conversations in Galician: a Large Language Model for an Underrepresented Language

The recent proliferation of Large Conversation Language Models has highlighted the economic significance of widespread access to this type of AI technologies in the current information age. Nevertheless, prevailing models have primarily been trained on corpora consisting of documents written in popular languages. The dearth of such cutting-edge tools for low-resource languages further exacerbates their underrepresentation in the current economic landscape, thereby impacting their native speakers. This paper introduces two novel resources designed to enhance Natural Language Processing (NLP) for the Galician language. We present a Galician adaptation of the Alpaca dataset, comprising 52,000 instructions and demonstrations. This dataset proves invaluable for enhancing language models by fine-tuning them to more accurately adhere to provided instructions. Additionally, as a demonstration of the dataset utility, we fine-tuned LLaMA-7B to comprehend and respond in Galician, a language not originally supported by the model, by following the Alpaca format. This work contributes to the research on multilingual models tailored for low-resource settings, a crucial endeavor in ensuring the inclusion of all linguistic communities in the development of Large Language Models. Another noteworthy aspect of this research is the exploration of how knowledge of a closely related language, in this case, Portuguese, can assist in generating coherent text when training resources are scarce. Both the Galician Alpaca dataset and Cabuxa-7B are publicly accessible on our Huggingface Hub, and we have made the source code available to facilitate replication of this experiment and encourage further advancements for underrepresented languages.

EPIE Dataset: A Corpus For Possible Idiomatic Expressions

Idiomatic expressions have always been a bottleneck for language comprehension and natural language understanding, specifically for tasks like Machine Translation(MT). MT systems predominantly produce literal translations of idiomatic expressions as they do not exhibit generic and linguistically deterministic patterns which can be exploited for comprehension of the non-compositional meaning of the expressions. These expressions occur in parallel corpora used for training, but due to the comparatively high occurrences of the constituent words of idiomatic expressions in literal context, the idiomatic meaning gets overpowered by the compositional meaning of the expression. State of the art Metaphor Detection Systems are able to detect non-compositional usage at word level but miss out on idiosyncratic phrasal idiomatic expressions. This creates a dire need for a dataset with a wider coverage and higher occurrence of commonly occurring idiomatic expressions, the spans of which can be used for Metaphor Detection. With this in mind, we present our English Possible Idiomatic Expressions(EPIE) corpus containing 25206 sentences labelled with lexical instances of 717 idiomatic expressions. These spans also cover literal usages for the given set of idiomatic expressions. We also present the utility of our dataset by using it to train a sequence labelling module and testing on three independent datasets with high accuracy, precision and recall scores.

INDUS: Effective and Efficient Language Models for Scientific Applications

Large language models (LLMs) trained on general domain corpora showed remarkable results on natural language processing (NLP) tasks. However, previous research demonstrated LLMs trained using domain-focused corpora perform better on specialized tasks. Inspired by this pivotal insight, we developed INDUS, a comprehensive suite of LLMs tailored for the Earth science, biology, physics, heliophysics, planetary sciences and astrophysics domains and trained using curated scientific corpora drawn from diverse data sources. The suite of models include: (1) an encoder model trained using domain-specific vocabulary and corpora to address natural language understanding tasks, (2) a contrastive-learning-based general text embedding model trained using a diverse set of datasets drawn from multiple sources to address information retrieval tasks and (3) smaller versions of these models created using knowledge distillation techniques to address applications which have latency or resource constraints. We also created three new scientific benchmark datasets namely, CLIMATE-CHANGE-NER (entity-recognition), NASA-QA (extractive QA) and NASA-IR (IR) to accelerate research in these multi-disciplinary fields. Finally, we show that our models outperform both general-purpose encoders (RoBERTa) and existing domain-specific encoders (SciBERT) on these new tasks as well as existing benchmark tasks in the domains of interest.

The Lucie-7B LLM and the Lucie Training Dataset: Open resources for multilingual language generation

We present both the Lucie Training Dataset and the Lucie-7B foundation model. The Lucie Training Dataset is a multilingual collection of textual corpora centered around French and designed to offset anglo-centric biases found in many datasets for large language model pretraining. Its French data is pulled not only from traditional web sources, but also from French cultural heritage documents, filling an important gap in modern datasets. Beyond French, which makes up the largest share of the data, we added documents to support several other European languages, including English, Spanish, German, and Italian. Apart from its value as a resource for French language and culture, an important feature of this dataset is that it prioritizes data rights by minimizing copyrighted material. In addition, building on the philosophy of past open projects, it is redistributed in the form used for training and its processing is described on Hugging Face and GitHub. The Lucie-7B foundation model is trained on equal amounts of data in French and English -- roughly 33% each -- in an effort to better represent cultural aspects of French-speaking communities. We also describe two instruction fine-tuned models, Lucie-7B-Instruct-v1.1 and Lucie-7B-Instruct-human-data, which we release as demonstrations of Lucie-7B in use. These models achieve promising results compared to state-of-the-art models, demonstrating that an open approach prioritizing data rights can still deliver strong performance. We see these models as an initial step toward developing more performant, aligned models in the near future. Model weights for Lucie-7B and the Lucie instruct models, along with intermediate checkpoints for the former, are published on Hugging Face, while model training and data preparation code is available on GitHub. This makes Lucie-7B one of the first OSI compliant language models according to the new OSI definition.

ReaKase-8B: Legal Case Retrieval via Knowledge and Reasoning Representations with LLMs

Legal case retrieval (LCR) is a cornerstone of real-world legal decision making, as it enables practitioners to identify precedents for a given query case. Existing approaches mainly rely on traditional lexical models and pretrained language models to encode the texts of legal cases. Yet there are rich information in the relations among different legal entities as well as the crucial reasoning process that uncovers how legal facts and legal issues can lead to judicial decisions. Such relational reasoning process reflects the distinctive characteristics of each case that can distinguish one from another, mirroring the real-world judicial process. Naturally, incorporating such information into the precise case embedding could further enhance the accuracy of case retrieval. In this paper, a novel ReaKase-8B framework is proposed to leverage extracted legal facts, legal issues, legal relation triplets and legal reasoning for effective legal case retrieval. ReaKase-8B designs an in-context legal case representation learning paradigm with a fine-tuned large language model. Extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets from COLIEE 2022 and COLIEE 2023 demonstrate that our knowledge and reasoning augmented embeddings substantially improve retrieval performance over baseline models, highlighting the potential of integrating legal reasoning into legal case retrieval systems. LEMUR: A Corpus for Robust Fine-Tuning of Multilingual Law Embedding Models for Retrieval

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used to access legal information. Yet, their deployment in multilingual legal settings is constrained by unreliable retrieval and the lack of domain-adapted, open-embedding models. In particular, existing multilingual legal corpora are not designed for semantic retrieval, and PDF-based legislative sources introduce substantial noise due to imperfect text extraction. To address these challenges, we introduce LEMUR, a large-scale multilingual corpus of EU environmental legislation constructed from 24,953 official EUR-Lex PDF documents covering 25 languages. We quantify the fidelity of PDF-to-text conversion by measuring lexical consistency against authoritative HTML versions using the Lexical Content Score (LCS). Building on LEMUR, we fine-tune three state-of-the-art multilingual embedding models using contrastive objectives in both monolingual and bilingual settings, reflecting realistic legal-retrieval scenarios. Experiments across low- and high-resource languages demonstrate that legal-domain fine-tuning consistently improves Top-k retrieval accuracy relative to strong baselines, with particularly pronounced gains for low-resource languages. Cross-lingual evaluations show that these improvements transfer to unseen languages, indicating that fine-tuning primarily enhances language-independent, content-level legal representations rather than language-specific cues. LLiMba: Sardinian on a Single GPU -- Adapting a 3B Language Model to a Vanishing Romance Language

Sardinian, a Romance language with roughly one million speakers, has minimal presence in modern NLP. Commercial services do not support it, and current language models do not produce it reliably. We present LLiMba, a 3B parameter Sardinian-ready model adapted from Qwen2.5-3B-Instruct through continued pretraining (CPT) and supervised fine-tuning (SFT) on a single 24 GB consumer GPU. The corpus contains 11.5 million tokens of Sardinian spanning LSC, Logudorese, and Campidanese, augmented with 2.4 million tokens of related Romance text as replay against register blurring. After CPT the model reaches a perplexity of 6.76 on held out Sardinian and outperforms the base across all six FLORES-200 directions. We compare five SFT configurations under matched conditions: full fine-tuning, LoRA r64, rsLoRA r128, rsLoRA r256, and DoRA r256. rsLoRA r256 wins on every direction into Sardinian, reaching 28.5 BLEU from English against 17.3 after CPT and 21.0 with full fine-tuning. The rank ablation places r128 between LoRA r64 and rsLoRA r256 on BLEU but reveals failure modes invisible to the metric, including leakage across scripts no other variant produces. LoRA r64 retains less factual content from SFT than configurations at higher rank and produces more confident fabrications, though all methods fabricate on content absent from training. DoRA r256 yields the smallest gap between training and evaluation but the worst factual accuracy. The findings indicate that adapter capacity matters more than the choice among LoRA variants for adapting a Romance pretrained base to a low resource Romance target, that stronger regularization is not uniformly beneficial, and that translation metrics smoothly order configurations whose qualitative behavior differs categorically. Perplexity comparisons across scripts must account for byte fallback tokenization, which deflates the metric for scripts other than Latin.

Automatic Annotation of Ancient Greek Vowel Length

Prior work in Ancient Greek NLP relies on corpora that do not disambiguate the phonemic vowel length of alpha, iota, and ypsilon, together known as the dichrona. Depending on lexeme, morphology, sandhi, syntax, and conventions of period, genre, and verse form, each of these letters can represent either a long or a short vowel. Deciding and marking the correct length is known as "macronizing", a long-tail problem given the sheer mass of word forms and the context dependency of individual instances. No macronized corpus of Ancient Greek is publicly available at scale, so a stand-alone macronizer is needed. While previous work has shown how to build a static, corpus-bespoke vowel-length dictionary, the present paper constructs the first general-purpose macronizer for arbitrary Ancient Greek input. Given input carrying lemma, part-of-speech, and morphological annotation in the standard CoNLL-U format, a set of recursive modules lets less common word forms inherit markup from more common forms of the same lexical word. The macronizer's chief application is generating training data for machine learning: we show that a small character-level transformer trained on the macronizer's own output learns to generalize past the cases the rule-based system leaves unmarked, matching or exceeding its accuracy on a gold-standard, manually annotated benchmark of verse and prose. We also show that macronization can improve downstream prosodical NLP tasks like verse scansion.

Bridging Gaps in Natural Language Processing for Yorùbá: A Systematic Review of a Decade of Progress and Prospects

Natural Language Processing (NLP) is becoming a dominant subset of artificial intelligence as the need to help machines understand human language looks indispensable. Several NLP applications are ubiquitous, partly due to the myriads of datasets being churned out daily through mediums like social networking sites. However, the growing development has not been evident in most African languages due to the persisting resource limitation, among other issues. Yorùbá language, a tonal and morphologically rich African language, suffers a similar fate, resulting in limited NLP usage. To encourage further research towards improving this situation, this systematic literature review aims to comprehensively analyse studies addressing NLP development for Yorùbá, identifying challenges, resources, techniques, and applications. A well-defined search string from a structured protocol was employed to search, select, and analyse 105 primary studies between 2014 and 2024 from reputable databases. The review highlights the scarcity of annotated corpora, limited availability of pre-trained language models, and linguistic challenges like tonal complexity and diacritic dependency as significant obstacles. It also revealed the prominent techniques, including rule-based methods, among others. The findings reveal a growing body of multilingual and monolingual resources, even though the field is constrained by socio-cultural factors such as code-switching and desertion of language for digital usage. This review synthesises existing research, providing a foundation for advancing NLP for Yorùbá and in African languages generally. It aims to guide future research by identifying gaps and opportunities, thereby contributing to the broader inclusion of Yorùbá and other under-resourced African languages in global NLP advancements.

SIB-200: A Simple, Inclusive, and Big Evaluation Dataset for Topic Classification in 200+ Languages and Dialects

Despite the progress we have recorded in the last few years in multilingual natural language processing, evaluation is typically limited to a small set of languages with available datasets which excludes a large number of low-resource languages. In this paper, we created SIB-200 -- a large-scale open-sourced benchmark dataset for topic classification in 200 languages and dialects to address the lack of evaluation dataset for Natural Language Understanding (NLU). For many of the languages covered in SIB-200, this is the first publicly available evaluation dataset for NLU. The dataset is based on Flores-200 machine translation corpus. We annotated the English portion of the dataset and extended the sentence-level annotation to the remaining 203 languages covered in the corpus. Despite the simplicity of this task, our evaluation in full-supervised setting, cross-lingual transfer setting and prompting of large language model setting show that there is still a large gap between the performance of high-resource and low-resource languages when multilingual evaluation is scaled to numerous world languages. We found that languages unseen during the pre-training of multilingual language models, under-represented language families (like Nilotic and Altantic-Congo), and languages from the regions of Africa, Americas, Oceania and South East Asia, often have the lowest performance on our topic classification dataset. OpenGloss: A Synthetic Encyclopedic Dictionary and Semantic Knowledge Graph

We present OpenGloss, a synthetic encyclopedic dictionary and semantic knowledge graph for English that integrates lexicographic definitions, encyclopedic context, etymological histories, and semantic relationships in a unified resource. OpenGloss contains 537K senses across 150K lexemes, on par with WordNet 3.1 and Open English WordNet, while providing more than four times as many sense definitions. These lexemes include 9.1M semantic edges, 1M usage examples, 3M collocations, and 60M words of encyclopedic content. Generated through a multi-agent procedural generation pipeline with schema-validated LLM outputs and automated quality assurance, the entire resource was produced in under one week for under $1,000. This demonstrates that structured generation can create comprehensive lexical resources at cost and time scales impractical for manual curation, enabling rapid iteration as foundation models improve. The resource addresses gaps in pedagogical applications by providing integrated content -- definitions, examples, collocations, encyclopedias, etymology -- that supports both vocabulary learning and natural language processing tasks. As a synthetically generated resource, OpenGloss reflects both the capabilities and limitations of current foundation models. The dataset is publicly available on Hugging Face under CC-BY 4.0, enabling researchers and educators to build upon and adapt this resource.

AutoRE: Document-Level Relation Extraction with Large Language Models

Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated exceptional abilities in comprehending and generating text, motivating numerous researchers to utilize them for Information Extraction (IE) purposes, including Relation Extraction (RE). Nonetheless, most existing methods are predominantly designed for Sentence-level Relation Extraction (SentRE) tasks, which typically encompass a restricted set of relations and triplet facts within a single sentence. Furthermore, certain approaches resort to treating relations as candidate choices integrated into prompt templates, leading to inefficient processing and suboptimal performance when tackling Document-Level Relation Extraction (DocRE) tasks, which entail handling multiple relations and triplet facts distributed across a given document, posing distinct challenges. To overcome these limitations, we introduce AutoRE, an end-to-end DocRE model that adopts a novel RE extraction paradigm named RHF (Relation-Head-Facts). Unlike existing approaches, AutoRE does not rely on the assumption of known relation options, making it more reflective of real-world scenarios. Additionally, we have developed an easily extensible RE framework using a Parameters Efficient Fine Tuning (PEFT) algorithm (QLoRA). Our experiments on the RE-DocRED dataset showcase AutoRE's best performance, achieving state-of-the-art results, surpassing TAG by 10.03\% and 9.03\% respectively on the dev and test set. Pantagruel: Unified Self-Supervised Encoders for French Text and Speech

We release Pantagruel models, a new family of self-supervised encoder models for French text and speech. Instead of predicting modality-tailored targets such as textual tokens or speech units, Pantagruel learns contextualized target representations in the feature space, allowing modality-specific encoders to capture linguistic and acoustic regularities more effectively. Separate models are pre-trained on large-scale French corpora, including Wikipedia, OSCAR and CroissantLLM for text, together with MultilingualLibriSpeech, LeBenchmark, and INA-100k for speech. INA-100k is a newly introduced 100,000-hour corpus of French audio derived from the archives of the Institut National de l'Audiovisuel (INA), the national repository of French radio and television broadcasts, providing highly diverse audio data. We evaluate Pantagruel across a broad range of downstream tasks spanning both modalities, including those from the standard French benchmarks such as FLUE or LeBenchmark. Across these tasks, Pantagruel models show competitive or superior performance compared to strong French baselines such as CamemBERT, FlauBERT, and LeBenchmark2.0, while maintaining a shared architecture that can seamlessly handle either speech or text inputs. These results confirm the effectiveness of feature-space self-supervised objectives for French representation learning and highlight Pantagruel as a robust foundation for multimodal speech-text understanding.

SiDiaC-v.2.0: Sinhala Diachronic Corpus Version 2.0

SiDiaC-v.2.0 is the largest comprehensive Sinhala Diachronic Corpus to date, covering a period from 1800 CE to 1955 CE in terms of publication dates, and a historical span from the 5th to the 20th century CE in terms of written dates. The corpus consists of 244k words across 185 literary works that underwent thorough filtering, preprocessing, and copyright compliance checks, followed by extensive post-processing. Additionally, a subset of 59 documents totalling 70k words was annotated based on their written dates. Texts from the National Library of Sri Lanka were selected from the SiDiaC-v.1.0 non-filtered list, which was digitised using Google Document AI OCR. This was followed by post-processing to correct formatting issues, address code-mixing, include special tokens, and fix malformed tokens. The construction of SiDiaC-v.2.0 was informed by practices from other corpora, such as FarPaHC, SiDiaC-v.1.0, and CCOHA. This was particularly relevant for syntactic annotation and text normalisation strategies, given the shared characteristics of low-resource language status between Faroese and the similar cleaning strategies utilised in CCOHA. This corpus is categorised into two layers based on genres: primary and secondary. The primary categorisation is binary, assigning each book to either Non-Fiction or Fiction. The secondary categorisation is more detailed, grouping texts under specific genres such as Religious, History, Poetry, Language, and Medical. Despite facing challenges due to limited resources, SiDiaC-v.2.0 serves as a comprehensive resource for Sinhala NLP, building upon the work previously done in SiDiaC-v.1.0.

PARHAF, a human-authored corpus of clinical reports for fictitious patients in French

The development of clinical natural language processing (NLP) systems is severely hampered by the sensitive nature of medical records, which restricts data sharing under stringent privacy regulations, particularly in France and the broader European Union. To address this gap, we introduce PARHAF, a large open-source corpus of clinical documents in French. PARHAF comprises expert-authored clinical reports describing realistic yet entirely fictitious patient cases, making it anonymous and freely shareable by design. The corpus was developed using a structured protocol that combined clinician expertise with epidemiological guidance from the French National Health Data System (SNDS), ensuring broad clinical coverage. A total of 104 medical residents across 18 specialties authored and peer-reviewed the reports following predefined clinical scenarios and document templates. The corpus contains 7394 clinical reports covering 5009 patient cases across a wide range of medical and surgical specialties. It includes a general-purpose component designed to approximate real-world hospitalization distributions, and four specialized subsets that support information-extraction use cases in oncology, infectious diseases, and diagnostic coding. Documents are released under a CC-BY open license, with a portion temporarily embargoed to enable future benchmarking under controlled conditions. PARHAF provides a valuable resource for training and evaluating French clinical language models in a fully privacy-preserving setting, and establishes a replicable methodology for building shareable synthetic clinical corpora in other languages and health systems.

DAEDRA: A language model for predicting outcomes in passive pharmacovigilance reporting

Over the recent years, the emergence of large language models (LLMs) has given rise to a proliferation of domain-specific models that are intended to reflect the particularities of linguistic context and content as a correlate of the originating domain. This paper details the conception, design, training and evaluation of DAEDRA, a LLM designed to detect regulatory-relevant outcomes (mortality, ER attendance and hospitalisation) in adverse event reports elicited through passive reporting (PR). While PR is a highly cost-efficient way of eliciting information from a wide and diverse audience -- typically including not only physicians and healthcare providers but also patients, family members and other lay stakeholders --, this diversity makes PR corpora difficult to analyse. Generic language models may not capture the complex clinical dimensions while specific clinical or biomedical models may not perform well on lay reports. To evaluate the utility of a subdomain-specific language model, an adaptive training approach was adapted, wherein base language model candidates were evaluated on a subset of the corpus, and the best performer was trained on the entire corpus. This yielded a small but significant improvement in F_1 (+1%), precision (+2.5%) and recall (+3.8%), at a relatively low training cost and a single-day training time. Subdomain-specific LLMs continue to be viable options for better results when analysing highly specialised corpora.

Brazilian Portuguese Image Captioning with Transformers: A Study on Cross-Native-Translated Dataset

Image captioning (IC) refers to the automatic generation of natural language descriptions for images, with applications ranging from social media content generation to assisting individuals with visual impairments. While most research has been focused on English-based models, low-resource languages such as Brazilian Portuguese face significant challenges due to the lack of specialized datasets and models. Several studies create datasets by automatically translating existing ones to mitigate resource scarcity. This work addresses this gap by proposing a cross-native-translated evaluation of Transformer-based vision and language models for Brazilian Portuguese IC. We use a version of Flickr30K comprised of captions manually created by native Brazilian Portuguese speakers and compare it to a version with captions automatically translated from English to Portuguese. The experiments include a cross-context approach, where models trained on one dataset are tested on the other to assess the translation impact. Additionally, we incorporate attention maps for model inference interpretation and use the CLIP-Score metric to evaluate the image-description alignment. Our findings show that Swin-DistilBERTimbau consistently outperforms other models, demonstrating strong generalization across datasets. ViTucano, a Brazilian Portuguese pre-trained VLM, surpasses larger multilingual models (GPT-4o, LLaMa 3.2 Vision) in traditional text-based evaluation metrics, while GPT-4 models achieve the highest CLIP-Score, highlighting improved image-text alignment. Attention analysis reveals systematic biases, including gender misclassification, object enumeration errors, and spatial inconsistencies. Bilingual Corpus Mining and Multistage Fine-Tuning for Improving Machine Translation of Lecture Transcripts

Lecture transcript translation helps learners understand online courses, however, building a high-quality lecture machine translation system lacks publicly available parallel corpora. To address this, we examine a framework for parallel corpus mining, which provides a quick and effective way to mine a parallel corpus from publicly available lectures on Coursera. To create the parallel corpora, we propose a dynamic programming based sentence alignment algorithm which leverages the cosine similarity of machine-translated sentences. The sentence alignment F1 score reaches 96%, which is higher than using the BERTScore, LASER, or sentBERT methods. For both English--Japanese and English--Chinese lecture translations, we extracted parallel corpora of approximately 50,000 lines and created development and test sets through manual filtering for benchmarking translation performance. Through machine translation experiments, we show that the mined corpora enhance the quality of lecture transcript translation when used in conjunction with out-of-domain parallel corpora via multistage fine-tuning. Furthermore, this study also suggests guidelines for gathering and cleaning corpora, mining parallel sentences, cleaning noise in the mined data, and creating high-quality evaluation splits.
